doesn't: multi-talented cabbies
I went out with some friends last night (you know who you are!), and we had a grrrreat time! I haven't laughed that much in a long time. We went to Club Cohiba - my new favorite grotto-like bar decorated entirely in old mirrors, and then we hade a very late dinner at Cappyccino's. We walked in right as they were closing, so they were a little miffed, but we were starving. Before we even got our food the waiter came by and asked if we would be wanting any dessert. We said no, and then on his next fly-by Chris asked, "Well, what do you mean by dessert?" I think kicks were exchanged under the table. But Chris wanted to see the dessert menu anyways - with no intention of ordering dessert. The whole purpose of mentioning this place is that I followed Chris's advice and had the most FABULOUS veggie burger of my life.
Now to the point of the story: We had taken cabs all night, and this last cabby was a doozie! After some initial seatbelt issues, we head off to destinations unknown because he doesn't seem to know the street we're talking about. He mentioned some places in California I think... That's when Chris notices he has a big silver flute in his lap. From then on, it's a hilarious swerving of lanes while trying to get it out of his lap to hand to Jon. Since Jon is so musically talented, we were encouraging him to play it, but he's a total germophobe, so we knew he wouldn't. "But it's not just that," he said, "I'd never play another man's flute." That is SO funny on so many levels - I love having such funny friends.
Then the cabbie reaches up to the dashboard and starts playing the keyboard we hadn't noticed was up there. More swerving, and Claudia and I are laughing uncontrollably at this point. And of course I don't have my camera. So when we finally stopped, he played all of these things for us:
- a small homemade recorder
- a recorder (very shrill)
- a keyboard
- a flute

I'm soooo glad you posted this. It filled my heart with glee as I read/relived almost playing another man's flute.
