weekend at v’s
Super-busy Friday! Ha! Try super-busy weekend!
- My stove and microwave range hood were delivered and they’re beautiful.
- The electrician came out to give me an estimate of $600 (!) to move the light switches and plugs, so my cousin’s husband came out and did it for the low, low price of a hug with boobies. I feel it was a fair exchange. ;)
The countertop guy came out and (just like everything else) the current countertop is non-standard, so he can’t take an accurate measurement until we remove the current countertop. That had to be saved for another day, but the materials were ordered! That’s the pattern to the right. It’s called “Madras Indian Slate” with a honed finish.
My cousin and I picked out the floor tiles for my master bath, and they pull in the color of my existing tub, sinks, and toilet perfectly. It’s called “Terraza Padera Patina Shale”:- We didn’t, however, get the kitchen tiles because I can’t find the one I want in stock.
- I also couldn’t choose wallpaper for the bathrooms, because instead of it being $200 and do-it-yourself for both rooms, my ceilings are so complicated I’m going to have to get them installed for a whopping $740. And I can’t justify that. But the walls are flat and imperfect, so I’ll have to texture them, which costs *me* time and effort. So I can’t decide what to do.
- Since we got the electrical moved, we were able to finish demolition on the divider wall in the master bath. Just wait til you see the before and after shots!
- I picked out light fixtures for both bathrooms, the breakfast nook, and shades for the chandelier in the dining room, which I’m going to refinish from brass to matte black, just like I did all the knobs & pulls (don’t laugh, aaron!) in the kitchen this weekend.
- And we also fixed the fence and blocked off the gate so Winston can’t get out of my backyard! That means I can let him out in the backyard without a tether!
That’s a full weekend. I’m exhausted just writing about it!

Don’t mind me, just hobbing the corporate knob.
dang. that’s a lot of diy shiznit.
What is this DIY thing you speak of? Is it like changing a lightbulb? ‘Cuz that’s about the limit of *our* collective skillz. (Actually, I’ll be rebuilding our fence after the holidays, with the help of my padre — who has all the tools and skillz I lack! ;) I have lots of *I’d like to do’s” but not a lot of “I have ANY clue HOW to do’s”… Even Home Depot doesn’t have enough classes to make me remotely useful! I get giddy just thinking about the ceiling fans we put in 6 years ago. That was our last “upgrade”. LOL
P.S. Photos are definitely in order. Clearly, your nest is more colorful than ours. Everything’s faux white marble, formica, and extruded plastic/or somesuch. Meh….
oh – believe me, photos are coming. i just want to have before AND after shots to show you guys. but it *is* hard not to put up “in progress” shots in the meantime.
And once it’s all done, i’ll have a party, and you can see it first-hand. :D
