overheard in dressing room

boy: Can we go buy clothes for me next?
mom: No.
boy: Why?
mom: Because your daddy hasn't paid his child support this month.
boy: (pause...) Yes he has.
mom: No he hasn't. He paid last month's, but he hasn't paid this month's.
boy: Yes he has. You're just spending it on you.
mom: No I'm not.
her friend: (mortified, laughing nervously) Why are you telling him that?
mom: Because he needs to know that we can't buy any clothes for him if his daddy doesn't pay the child support.

I was just as mortified as her friend.
