ski durango 2006

Well, I'm back (in one piece) from my first ski trip. The resort used to be known as Purgatory, but it's now Durango Mountain Resort. I prefer Purgatory. We left Wednesday night at 5pm, drove up to Dallas to pick up Brad and Lenora, and we drove through the night, arriving in Durango at noon on Thursday. There were 11 of us, and we rented the coolest place - media room, pool table, hot tub, fancy kitchen.
Needless to say, I suck. I literally can't ski. JR tried to teach me for two days, to no avail. I took a class on the third day. Still a no go; I'm terrified. If you want to know why, check out the back story. (note from the editor: sorry this wasn't linked up earlier. oops.)
I tried my hardest, but I just couldn't get it. After three days of falling hard on my tailbone, twisting my ankles and knees and smacking the back of my head on hard-packed snow, I gave up. I took my best shot at something that not only scares me to death, but that I'm not good at. I'm pretty proud of that. And I had a great time! The snow was great, the mountains were beautiful, and the company was terrific! I celebrated my 33rd birthday in Durango, Colorado for heaven's sake!
To sum it up: driving, skiing, eating, drinking, sleeping, hot-tubbing.

Sorry you had lousy luck getting your "snow legs." I've never tried snow skiing, but had a similar experience water skiing on very choppy water. Can you say "lake water enema?"
Happy Birthday! :)

You just need to try again!
Once you hit your head enough times to remove the memories you have of breaking your leg skiing as a child... you'll be over that little tragedy and on your way to learning how to ski :D

All skiing is, anyway, is falling with style. ;-)
By that definition, I would be good at it. But as someone who can require knee surgery just by going down stairs inside a house, I'll pass on the opportunity to prove my mad falling skillz!

if i can ride a bike without falling down, you can ski. (i've been known to fall, but we're taking a broader statistical sample here.) and if skiing doesn't work, start with snowboarding. then you can hang out with the potheads and listen to skapunk.

Yay! Ashley in snow! I'm proud of you, too. And look, you can still form sentences, and walk, but whatever...I love you and your will to succeed!
