dearest radiohead

I have been trying dutifully, like any true Radiohead fan, to buy your latest album. I have tried, and tried, and tried again. I tried to pre-order. I tried to opening-day order. And I have tried to day-after-opening-day order. But you won't let me in. As chad, a co-worker, twittered, "i am trying to give you my money!"

Did you not expect this kind of traffic? You tell me it has been added to my basket, and then my basket is empty. :( I don't know how much more of this I can take!

WAIT!!!! I got in! And lo and behold, my basket is NOT empty! I filled in all my little details, and bought my precious discbox! And I am currently downloading my precious new Radiohead tunes. I am downloading (and blogging) from a speeding bus, a bus on which I should have worked during this trip. But we must have priorities. If only I weren't in meetings all day, I would have this album pumping into my earholes all day long. Sigh. I guess there's always the ride home.

oct10, new radiohead!!!

radiohead: new album, originally uploaded by ashleyv.

I just saw the news: Surprise! Radiohead is releasing their new album on Oct10'07. It's called In Rainbows. They're not going through a record label - it'll be available as a digital download or as a discbox (which includes vinyls and CDs and artwork and lyric sheets and possibly stuff that Jonny has touched with his very own hands, or maybe that Thom has breathed upon. I don't know!). I believe the downloads will be available on the 10th, but the discboxes don't ship until Dec3'07. But the discboxes include digital downloads available on the 10th. I think. It's all very exciting and confusing. You can set your own price for the download, but the discbox is about US$80.

And you can pre-order NOW. What are you even doing here still? Go, now! GO!

Note: Actually, I'm trying to pre-order while I post, and the pre-order is acting a little glitchy. FYI.

ad-rock, mca, and me, mike d!

We went to see the Beastie Boys at Berkeley's Greek Theatre last night, and ... words fail me. There is not much I can say to express to you how unbelievably incredible this show was. I've never been to a Beastie Boys show before, so I had high expectations going in. And they blew those away. The energy of those 3 on stage was electric, and Mix Master Mike is AMAZING. They played every song I wanted to hear. And they kicked ass! I will go see them every chance I get.

bret, you got it goin' on!

OK. It is official. I have a favorite new show, and it is Flight of the Conchords on HBO. I think I have watched the "Bowie" episode no less than six seven times. No joke. And the number of times I've watched this little gem from that episode would boggle your mind.

You really have to find a way to watch the "Bowie" episode. Because it contains the 3 things that are guaranteed to win a lifelong cult following, at least from me:
  1. "1986 David Bowie from the movie 'Labyrinth' ",
  2. A song called "Bowie's in Space", which actually says: "Hey Bowie - do you have one really funky sequined spacesuit, or do you have several ch-changes?" and the phrase "groovitational, groovitational pull."
  3. Kiwis who respond to questions with "Yeah. No."
So I guess you should also watch the music video for "Bowie's in Space":

am old.

I just had to be a grown-up and leave the Decemberists show early to come home and work. And if there was ever a week when I needed to kick back and enjoy an entire Decemberists show, this was it. At least they played 'The Infanta' while I was there.

Sometimes I hate having to be an adult.
